Correctional Nursing Jobs

Correctional nursing jobs function like other nurses in the industry but within a correctional facility. Common activities for this health care career involve evaluating patient records, providing treatment, and administering medication. Consulting with other physicians and nurses is also common for an individual with a correctional nursing job.

As far as education, a RN or LPN education will be sufficient for correctional nursing jobs. A bachelor's degree, an associate degree, or diploma from an accredited institution is an adequate level of education for this career. These nursing programs can be found at a number of colleges and universities across the nation and can take around 2 to 4 years to complete. In addition to formal education the National Council Licensure Examination must be passed before becoming employed in all states.

This escalation will be faster than the national average and can be related to expansions in health care, a rise in the elderly population, and technological advancements. While opportunities for qualified professionals are expected to be excellent, job availability will vary geographically.
