District Nursing Jobs

District nursing jobs are a specialized type of health care that involves visiting the patients in their home or assisted living residences so that hospitalization will not be as necessary. Evaluating a patient's medical history, informing a patient's family members on their condition and in addition to administering treatment an individual with a district nursing job provides support to the other members of the health care team.

The educational requirements for becoming employed with a district nursing job involve attaining a diploma, Associate of Science, or Bachelor's of Science degree from an accredited educational program. Colleges and universities that offer these programs can be found across the nation and can take 2 to 4 years to complete. Nursing licensure must be attained through passing the National Council Licensure Examination before becoming employed.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected increase of 22 percent in nursing employment over the course of the 2008 to 2018 decade. This rate of employment will be much faster than the national average for all occupations with the growth attributed to the expansions of health care services, rise in the elderly population, and the advancements in medical technology. As far as job prospects, qualified professionals will find excellent job prospects.
