Nursing Informatics Jobs

Nursing Informatics jobs are responsible for designing the computer programs that assist with the management and data processing for nursing data and information that will support the healthcare services that they provide. These professions can be found in a variety of healthcare settings including hospitals and residential health facilities.

Employers may require a bachelor's degree but more notably seek individuals with a diverse set of skills. As long as proficiency is shown, employers may hire someone without a degree with the possibility of furthering education if demands increase. As demand grows from this position and competition rises, individuals with advanced degrees will have an edge over other professionals that do not, especially in management positions. The American Nurses Credentialing Center also offers certification for nursing informatics.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected 22 percent increase in employment over the course of the 2008 to 2018 decade. This growth will be much faster than the national average for all occupations. As medical technology improves and the amount of patients increases due to widening healthcare services and the rise of the elderly population, more nursing informatics professionals will be necessary. Job professionals with certification and significant experience will have the best employment opportunities available.
