School Nursing Jobs

School nursing jobs provide care and basic medical education for students. Common activities for an individual with a school nursing job are conducting vision tests, giving basic health evaluations for the school's students, maintaining all health supplies, and implementing school wide health policies.

Prospective job seekers will need to become a registered nurse through obtaining an associate degree, a diploma, or a bachelor's degree in nursing. Accredited medical education programs are offered around the country at many educational institutions and range from 2 to 4 years to complete. The National Council Licensure Examination must also be passed to obtain a nursing license before becoming employed in any state.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is a projected 22 percent increase in employment set to occur over the 2008 to 2018 decade. This rate of employment will be much faster than the national average for all occupations with the demand attributed to the rise in the elderly population, advancements in healthcare technology, and the broadening of healthcare services. These aspects will produce a favorable job market for qualified job seekers.
